Latvian National Symphony Orchestra
The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) is one of the country’s oldest cultural institutions, with a full concert season, resident ensembles, and a calendar that has to be right to the minute. Their site ran on Wix, and after years it had aged past what the platform could carry. A bilingual concert programme, season subscriptions, and directories of musicians and conductors were more structure than Wix was built to hold, so every change meant working around its limits instead of with them. We moved LNSO to WordPress on a theme built for exactly this content, and did the one thing Wix makes hardest: got all their content out.
A concert calendar the orchestra runs itself
The calendar is the heart of the site. Each concert is its own kind of content, carrying its performance dates, venue, programme and the season subscription it belongs to. Visitors filter a full season by date, concert type, hall or subscription package, and the orchestra’s own team adds and edits concerts through fields laid out to match how they think about a season, not a generic page editor. Seasons, halls and subscriptions are structured data now, so the calendar, the event pages and the subscription listings all stay in sync from one place.
Bilingual, natively
LNSO performs for a Latvian and an international audience, so the whole site runs in Latvian and English side by side. Not a bolt-on translation, but every concert, musician and news post maintained in both languages. Directories for musicians, conductors, soloists and residents, plus news, vacancies, multimedia and visitor information, each get a template of their own rather than being forced into one page-builder layout.
Getting the content out of Wix
Moving off Wix is the part nobody warns you about. Wix does not give you a real export. You can take your text and a few pages, but the structured content, the media library, and everything that makes a content-heavy site worth having stays locked inside the platform. So we built our own Wix content export: scripts that pull the pages, concerts, images and structured data straight off the live Wix site and reshape them into something WordPress can import cleanly. Almost the entire site came across that way, years of concerts, people and news preserved rather than retyped by hand.
If you are looking at a Wix to WordPress migration and have been told your content cannot be exported, that is only half true. It cannot be exported the easy way. We wrote the tools that do it the hard way.
A refresh, not just a move
The old site was not only stuck on the wrong platform, it looked its age. The rebuild is a clean, current design built around the orchestra’s own photography and its centenary-season identity, with the calendar, latest news and featured concerts leading the page. Newsletter signup, podcasts, an Instagram feed and YouTube media are wired in where they belong, and ticket sales run through WooCommerce.
Stack: WordPress with a bespoke theme, Advanced Custom Fields for the concert and season data, Polylang for the bilingual content, WooCommerce for ticketing, and a SendGrid-based newsletter signup. The content came over through custom Wix export scripts written for this migration.
